Attention to socially vulnerable groups

We develop customized solutions in collaboration with organizations that deal with specific disadvantaged groups.

- Accessible UiT: event calendars with information concerning the accessibility for disabled people.

CultuurNet Vlaanderen is collaborating with Enter Vzw, Intro vzw and Agentschap Toegankelijk Vlaanderen to provide information in the UiT database on the accessibility of the listed venues and on the presence of specific facilities for disabled people. This information is not only available on UiTinVlaanderen.be, but also on the agenda widgets that are integrated on sector-specific websites. CultuurNet is also joining forces with specialized organizations as G-sport Vlaanderen and Oranje vzw in order to improve the collection and distribution of information on (sports) events.

- City Pirates: a project for children in underprivileged neighborhoods.

The project ‘City Pirates’ brings together museums and youth organizations to introduce disadvantaged children to heritage in their neighborhood. This project is meant to break down barriers and is aimed at city kids who cannot go on vacation and who rarely come into contact with culture. In 2011, a pilot project was launched in Ghent, and in recent years the project was been extended to Antwerp, Aalst, Ostend, Leuven, Brussels, Genk and Knokke-Heist. As a result, hundreds of children are enjoying valuable cultural activities in their own neighborhoods, with a link to the summer action Vlieg.

- Intercultural actions and information services

CultuurNet Vlaanderen played an active part in the steering committee that developed the commitment statement on Interculturalism. The aim of CultuurNet Vlaanderen is to inform people from different ethnic or cultural communities better about diverse local leisure activities.

° Scan4Diversity
As a calendar partner we support the campaign Scan4Diversity of the FMDO (national federation of global associations), which responds to the request of self-help organizations to reach new audiences.

° Other participation projects
We support guidance projects such as Babbelonië, taalbubbels, Aalst Mixt, et cetera and the language courses NT2. We are implementing the project on ‘language icons’ further, launched in 2014 in collaboration with the “Huizen van het Nederlands”. And we examine the feasibility of a pilot project with neighborhood posters, which should lead to better data collection of hyper-local diverse activities and more involvement from local residents.

- UiTPAS

With the UiTPAS the Flemish government wants to stimulate more people to take part in the diverse cultural and leisure activities. An ambitious and innovative project with specific attention to the barriers that people with low or fixed incomes face.
